Get downloading! iTunes 10 is now available from the Apple website but the new social network strand Ping seems to be struggling slightly. While the People section of your Ping profile in iTunes 10 promises that you can link up with Facebook friends, the Facebook Connect button has gone AWOL…

If you’ve grabbed iTunes 10, switched on Ping and want to add friends, you’ll face a bit of a problem. The Facebook integration demoed by Steve Jobs during the Apple event last night has disappeared making it a little tricky to start following people in iTunes 10.

The only other ways to find friends on Ping using iTunes 10 at the moment are by individually inviting them via email or searching to see if they’ve stuck up a Ping profile. So far we’re feeling a little lonely.

In fact, at the moment, the social part of iTunes 10 doesn’t feel that social at all. There’s no way to connect Ping to your Twitter account or grab contacts from webmail services like Gmail.

When you create your Ping profile in iTunes 10, you’ll also find that you have to wait a while for Apple to approve your picture. And if you were hoping to follow Steve Jobs to get the latest Jack Johnson and Coldplay recommendations, you’re out of luck – his profile isn’t public.

Let us know what you make of iTunes 10 and Ping. Are you impressed by the new social features or just frustrated that there’s another service to keep up with?

don't see the point of it at all…no connection to facebook makes it useless.
