Update: new iPod touch UK pricing is up. Start counting your pennies as you can preorder the 8Gb model for £189, the 32GB for £249 and the 64GB behemoth for £329.

Just as we expected, the new iPod touch is here and official, and unlike last year, there aren’t any nasty surprises like a missing camera. The new iPod touch packs in everything we hoped and expected: that gorgeous Retina display that made us fall for the iPhone 4 and support for FaceTime chat. Click through for all the info…

The new iPod touch sticks with tradition by matching the specs of the latest iPhone and stripping out the call connectivity in exchange for an even slimmer shell. And it looks set to be a good trade off: the new iPod touch packs a rear camera capable of shooting HD video, a front-facing camera for FaceTime and iOS 4.1 straight out of the box.

The new iPod touch also supports FaceTime video chatting over WiFi with iPhone 4 owners, thanks to front facing camera. Apple hasn’t explained how the calls will work but we suspect it’ll use the email address plan we saw leaked a while back.

The new iPod touch is shipping next week and will be up for preorder tonight. UK prices haven’t emerged yet but we’ll update you when they do and we’ll be tracking one down for a hands on just as soon as we can.
