If you’ve been keeping an eye on things across the pond, you might know what to expect from the Motorola Milestone 2, which is already on sale under the name Droid 2. The specs are nearly identical, and that’s by no means a bad thing.
The Motorola Milestone 2 packs a 3.7-inch WVGA screen, a new and zippy 1GHz processor, five megapixel camera (capable of 720p HD video recording) and Android 2.2 – though this time it’s been skinned by Motorola with its MotoBlur software, rather than left untouched, like Android on the Google Nexus One and original Milestone – you can find out whether that’s for the best or not in our upcoming Motorola Milestone 2 hands on preview, but a Motorola spokesperson did tell us that the mobile hotspot app will be network dependent (In other words, you might have to pay extra to use it). There’s also 8GB of internal storage, plus a microSD card to give it an extra boost with your own memory card.
Android 2.2 is par for the course now but what’s got us really excited about the Motorola Milestone 2 is the revamped keyboard. The original’s ended up as deadweight on the phone, thanks to flat, poorly defined keys. That appears to be done away with now, thanks to a delightful board with nicely raised buttons. If you were holding out for a high end Android phone with a great physical keyboard, the Motorola Milestone 2 may just be what you’re looking for.
Speaking of which, the Motorola Milestone 2 is out before the end of the year, so mark that three month block off in your diary, then go check out our hands on photos!
