Pity the Samsung YP-Q3. The new micro media player has just one day in the sun before a brand new iPod nano, complete with a touchscreen, is expected to be announced at Apple’s special event tomorrow. Did it ever even stand a chance?

It’s not that there’s a great deal wrong with the Samsung YP-Q3. It’s small, pretty, and as ever with Samsung gadgets, it’s stuffed full of format support. The Samsung YP-Q3 will play H.264 or XviD videos, OGG and MP3 songs and even channel through your favourite radio station via means of a good old fashioned FM tuner.

The problem is of course that Apple looks set to steal all the hype tomorrow by relaunching its own tiny music player, the iPod nano. If the latest case leaks are anything to go by, it looks set to pack a touchscreen and a Shuffle-esque form factor, complete with a standard 30-pin port for iPod docking.

Still, if you don’t do iTunes, the Samsung YP-Q3 should be out later this year – we’ve contacted Samsung UK for details on pricing and will update when we hear back. Now, where’s that Samsung Galaxy rival to the new iPod touch gone?

Most people who have used Samsung product say that the sound quality is way better than equivalent products from other companies. The SoundAlive function of Samsung YP-Q3 provides 5.1-channel stereo surround sound.

The biggest strength of Q3 is sound quality. It would have been better if the display was bigger.

but the best thing in this model is its design! I hope I will be able to watch movies on it, or looking though my pictures! do I need special mics for it? and that silver frame is it aluminium or plastic?

lovely players! Samsung is always on the top of all new gadgets!! I really wanna try the first one – Q3 because it looks very ncie and slender, and if the sound quality is good, I think might buy it in the nearest future! (I hope I can watch movies on it^^)

i’ve always been a ipod user, but since i recently lost my ipod touch i decided to buy the samsung yp-q3, other than not having games and a touch screen, i actually prefer the q3 :) the music quality is so much better and its a hell of a lot cheaper than the new ipod nano, especially for the amount of memory you get…
