PSP to get Trophies?

It looks like Trophies are coming to the PSP. A game demo video shown at Gamescom last week contained a quick flash of an icon on a PSP that looked a lot like the Trophy menu from its big brother, the PS3.

The demo of PSP strategy title No Heroes Allowed didn’t exactly set the world ablaze when it was shown at the Gamescom show in Cologne last week. There was something newsworthy about it though – an eagle-eyed attendee spotted a few frames in the demo video that show a Trophy Collection icon on the PSP’s main menu.

The icon appears during part of the video that was likely supplied by Sony themselves so this is probably official. This could mean that the PSP is to get its own Trophy system (Trophies are similar to Achievements on the Xbox, if you are unfamiliar with the PS3) with games awarding points for successful feats within games.

The other possibility is that Trophies will remain a PS3-only feature but that the PSP will become more tightly integrated with the Playstation Network and you will be able to view your PS3 achievements on your portable device. We hope it is the former, obviously – if the iPhone can get game achievements then surely the PSP can too?
