As if the Medal of Honor controversy wasn’t enough, EA has just announced that Chris Ryan, ex-SAS soldier and author of innumerable blood, guts and guns epics will pen a prequel novel to go with the game. So what can we expect from this Medal of Honor-inspired literary opus?

The cunningly titled Medal of Honor: The Book will be based on missions from within the game and Ryan says he’ll be tapping in to his own experiences. The author of The One That Got Away, Strike Back and Ultimate Force (we’re not making these up) says: “Combining my experience as an SAS soldier in the Gulf War with missions from the video game itself enabled me to create an authentic and respectful account of an elite soldier fighting in Afghanistan.”

Ryan promises the pulpy product of playing Medal of Honor will be “an engaging read for fans of video games and novels alike.” We’re not sure there’s always that much crossover between the two but if you want to read Ryan’s Medal of Honor tale and play the game, it’ll be given away with all HMV preorders.

You’ll also be able to snap up Medal of Honor: The Book from book shops once the game is released. Somehow we suspect it won’t entirely translate the true Medal of Honor experience into literature unless Ryan includes foul-mouthed American kids abusing you in multiplayer and the mission to the kitchen during hour five of a marathon single player session. There’s also no word yet on whether Liam Fox wants the book banned.

Hit the comments to let us know what other games should get the novelisation treatment like Medal of Honor. The Mario franchise seems like a prime candidate for a chick lit romp about a Princess trapped in a love triangle with a villainous turtle and a bumbling plumber.
