LOVEFiLM strikes MGM deal

Movie subscriptions service LOVEFiLM has struck a deal with Hollywood studio MGM that will give access to the studio’s library of classic titles. Over 250 flicks will be available immediately with more to come.

LOVEFiLM is a digital and post subscription service that will let you download films to watch for a limited time or send you DVDs in the post to be returned when you have finished with them. By signing up for the Unlimited package yo can keep watching films until your eyes turn square – the only problem is that you will one day run out of stuff that you want to watch and be forced to rent some shoddy Police Academy sequels or trawl the fag-end of Steven Segal’s film career in search of entertainment.

Thanks to a deal LOVEFiLM has made with MGM, that day can be postponed a little further. MGM is granting LOVEFiLM access to its archive of classic films, including Oscar winners like The Apartment, West Side Story and the original Taking of Pelham 1-2-3 (i.e. the good one without John Travolta).

As well as DVDs by snail-mail, LOVEFiLM will also let you stream movies to your PC. Certain Samsung and Sony Bravia TV and BlueRay players can also stream films from LOVEFiLM with a suitable broadband internet connection.
