A new iPod touch is on the way: we’ve seen enough leaks by now to be convinced of it. But when will it be launching? Now we have an answer for that too: a major news agency is reporting that Apple’s Autumn iPod refresh event will be taking place on 7 September – and that all new Apple TV will be making an appearance too.

Bloomberg is reporting that an Apple event will be held on Tuesday 7 September in San Francisco. Apple has for years hosted an event around this time to launch its new iPods, so this should come as no surprise, but since Apple hasn’t announced the date itself yet, you can take it as first confirmation of when we’ll see a new iPod touch: two separate sources are cited.

New iPod touch to pack 5MP camera and FaceTime?

We’ve already got a good idea of what we’ll be seeing in the new iPod touch: a new design, Retina Display, five megapixel camera and front facing camera for FaceTime chatting. And one of the sources says this will indeed be the case.

But the focus of Bloomberg’s report is actually on the rumoured Apple TV refresh. Three sources said that Apple is in discussions to offer Fox TV shows for 99 cents rentals, available 24 hours after first air, and while no mention of streaming is made, it seems likely this will be the method, as a smaller “hard drive” will be used – though of course, if the new Apple TV really does work like a new iPod touch without a screen, it won’t technically have a mechanical hard drive at all. Still, a minor point: if the thrust of the article is true, we can’t wait.
