UPDATE: Oh dear. The Nokia 5250 has a resistive touchscreen, Nokia has confirmed to us. Better get used to a stylus again, folks.
We saw the Nokia 5250 pop up in some curious placeholder advertising on Nokia’s website a few weeks ago, but now the phone is official. It’s rocking the same looks as the pricey X6, but comes in much cheaper. Cheap enough to put up with Symbian S60 still? Read on and judge for yourself with the specs and details.
The Nokia 5250 is an update to the Nokia 5230, a cheap 2G touchscreen version of the massively successful 5800 XpressMusic handset, but it’s sporting the curves and button design of Nokia’s flagship X6 touchscreen music phone.
Specs wise, you’re looking at a 2.8-inch display on the Nokia 5250, with a reasonably sharp 640×360 resolution (We’ve asked Nokia whether the panel is resistive or capacitive, but given the price, we fear it may be the former), a two megapixel camera on the back, and 2G connectivity to keep the battery going for up to 18 days in standby.

The Nokia 5250 doesn’t have much in the way of internal storage, but will support microSD cards up to 16GB in size, and the whole package is set to ship for €115 (£94) unlocked – low for a touchscreen smartphone.
That’s a decent price for sure, but if you saw our recent Nokia C6 review, you’ll know we’re sick to death of touchscreen Symbian S60 at this point. Between the forthcoming Symbian 3 and the excellent but non-touchscreen Nokia C5 coming in at around the same price, we fear the Nokia 5250 may struggle to make an impression in the UK. Still, if you feel otherwise, you’ll be able to pick up a Nokia 5250 sometime before Christmas.
