Hurrah! Call of Duty: Black Ops will be getting a full complement of mod tools when it arrives on the PC. Fantastic news for players itching to create their own multiplayer maps for Treyarch’s latest Call of Duty outing. There was much wailing and gnashing of teeth when Modern Warfare 2 went without mod tools so it’s likely to be a popular move.
The news that Treyarch is all for Call of Duty: Black Ops mods on the PC popped up in the official forums. PCDev, a member of the Call of Duty: Black Ops development team revealed the good news.
The post said: “There are some purely technical issues related to engine and internal tool enhancements that do not easily fit the mod tools paradigm. We have looked at it close enough to see that it is non-trivial and we will pick it up again post-launch. Right now we are completely focused on finishing the game. And, dev console: confirmed.”
Cut through the slightly dry tone of the post and you’re left with a confirmation that mod tools will be on the cards once Call of Duty: Black Ops is complete. Including a dev console also opens up lots of opportunities for using cheat codes.
Treyarch previously suggested that there will be dedicated servers for Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer on the PC which should mean there’ll be no repeat of the uproar that surround Modern Warfare 2.
