Nikon D3100: all the official photos!

The Nikon D3100 is now official, and here to replace the delightful D3000 as the company’s entry level DSLR. It might come cheap, but it still packs in plenty of specs, including a couple of ace HD video features. Read on to find out what and see the pictures.

The Nikon D3100 has been floating about as rumour for a week or so online, but it’s now official, and the leaks were bang on the money. The Nikon D3100 packs a 14.2 megapixel sensor, ISO 100-3200 extendable to 12800, and a 3-inch LCD.

The big news with the Nikon D3100 however is on the HD video recording side of things, where Nikon traditionally has lacked behind arch rival Canon. Though starting at below £500, the Nikon D3100 shoots full 1080p HD video at 24fps, and here’s the kicker: there’s continuous 11-point auto focus and face detection in movie mode. That should put your camcorder right out of work, as should the HDMI port to hook it straight up to your TV when you’re done.

The Nikon D3100 is out at the end of next month, with prices starting at £499.99 body only, and £579.99 with an 18-55mm lens kit. We’re meeting with Nikon this afternoon, so expect a hands on then, but in the meantime, check out all the Nikon D3100 official photos here in our gallery.
