EpicWin is a new iPhone app/game that aims to motivate users by turning real life into a role playing game. Everyday task become quests and the minor victories of your to-do list will level-up your character.
Gamers are often highly motivated people – its just that they are motivated by things like unlocking hidden character costumes and uncovering areas of a map rather than more useful things like ‘cleaning the house’ or ‘filling out income tax forms’.
EpicWin seeks to change all that. It is a strange hybrid of to-do list app and RPG for the iPhone. To play, you have to enter your to-do list and grade each entry by assigning a difficulty rating and a category – strength, stamina, intellect, social or spirit. When you complete the task, you get a little battle animation showing your character vanquishing a foe and you are awarded Experience Points according to how difficult the task was to achieve. Yes, this will require a level of honesty on your part.
This trailer (sort of) explains things. EpicWin sounds like a great idea to us, and makes us wish the real world could encroach on other game genres. An FPS where you get health packs in return for posting to a gadget blog, anyone?
