The Canon IXUS brand has in the compact digital camera market for ten years now. While the rest of us are wondering exactly where that decade went, Canon is in business as usual and has decided to mark the occasion by.. releasing a digital camera. Obvious, when you think about it.
The Canon IXUS 1000 HS has a lot of tens associated with it. There is the tenth anniversary, of course, but also 10 megapixels, 10x optical zoom and 10(80p) high definition video, which you can capture using the camera’s video function. Sadly, it probably doesn’t cost ten quid – Canon will be charging top whack for this.
The camera uses Canon’s HS Sytem, which combines the 10 megapixel CCD with DIGIC 4 image enhancing software to improve picture quality in poor lighting conditions. The video side of things is equally good with full 1920x1080p video recording and CD-quality stereo audio. A built-in HDMI mini port means you will be able to view your flicks on a HD TV just by plugging it in.
Canon has also acknowledged the popularity of EyeFi wireless storage cards by integrating support into the camera’s OS. If you plug an EyeFi in to the camera you will get a dedicated EyeFi menu to access all of its functions. Nice, but next time why not just make the camera wireless by default? Maybe for its next big birthday – the 16th, maybe?
