We’ve been anticipating Facebook’s launch of a geo-location feature, similar to Foursquare, for weeks and now a Twitter account has popped up purporting to be the The Official Twitter Account for Facebook Places, just a few hours before Facebook holds a lengthy press conference.
A single tweet on the account says “It’s true. Watch out for the Official announcement scheduled to begin at 4:30pm PT / 7:30pm ET” those times chime with Facebook’s press conference, and the account has also been set up to follow several notable Facebook employees and ex-Facebook coders, including Mark Zuckerberg and Joe Hewitt, the man previously responsible for Facebook’s iPhone app development.
The Facebook page pointed to by the account, Facebook.com/facebookplaces currently returns no more evidence, only “page missing” errors. Is Facebook Places really real? Shout up with your predictions in the comments.
