The Samsung Galaxy Tablet is due to make its debut next month at IFA and the most thorough set of specs so far has broken cover. Delving into newly-released Samsung firmware, OLED fanboys seem to have discovered the weapons the Samsung Galaxy Tablet will deploy in its battle with the iPad. Do they cut the mustard?

Reading the latest rundown of Samsung Galaxy Tablet specs uncovered by OLED-Display, it seems the slate will pretty much be an expanded Samsung Galaxy S. Disappointingly, the 7in display will have a 800×480 resolution, hardly stunning when you consider that the iPhone 4 Retina Display packs a 640×960 resolution into a screen that’s half the size.

The rest of the leaked Samsung Galaxy Tablet specs are relatively impressive. There’s a 3MP camera, the same 1GHz A8 Hummingbird processor as the Samsung Galaxy S, Wi-Fi and GPS.

We’ve been led to believe that the Samsung Galaxy Tablet will have 3G smarts but the new details don’t mention it. Previous rumours about the Samsung Galaxy Tablet have also pointed to Android 2.2 Froyo onboard and 16GB of storage.

Let us know: does the prospect of a relatively low-res screen put you off the Samsung Galaxy Tablet? Or are the rest of the specs enough to tempt you?

You know what we have had the mega[pixel race in Cameras and mobile devices and now it's the screen resolution race and you know what in most cases these figures are just as pointless as ever. What is important and what does count is the picture quality a screen delivers not the resoloution on it's own as what looks great in a spec sheet may not be so great in real life use.

It really makes me laugh that up to this year many where happy to claim the iPhone had the one of the best screens around and that the resolution wasn't as importnat as the quality and now all of a sudden as it has a higher resolution then anything else of course it's all that matters funny how that works isn't it?

I'll wait to see what the screen looks like in real life rather then get all worked up about what a spec sheet says as currently my Streak with it's 800×480 5″ screen delivers outstanding results. It has surprised me by just how well it does in outdoor sunny conditions giving me a bright clear and readable screen and performs better then any screen I've used or seen to date.

Just by looking at photo's of the Galaxy it's easy to tell that it won't be praised by many.

Ouch! I don't know, if it's anything like the Galaxy S, it'll be blindingly fast and with a stonking screen. Not Retina Display on the iPad.

Don't forget that the iPad is 1024×768 so this tablet has nearly the same res in a smaller form factor. On top of that OLED is faster, has better contrast, and uses a lot less battery since it doesn't require any backlighting like the antiquated LCD screens do.

Afraid it's official now Paul, and there's no OLED in sight :(
