iPad: free Photoshop app unveiled

The iPad has got its own taste of free Photoshop action with the latest update to the Photoshop iPhone app getting an overhaul to become a universal offering for all Apple’s iOS devices. It’s been renamed Photoshop Express but what can you expect if you sling it on your iPad?

The free iPad Photoshop app will give you the ability to crop, straighten, rotate and flip your photos. It also has the usual range of filters (sketch, soft focus and sharpen), effects (vintage, pop, rainbow etc.) and borders to slap onto your snaps.

The iPad version of Photoshop Express lets you edit multiple photos simultaneously in portrait or landscape mode. Oddly, the iPhone Photoshop app hasn’t yet had a resolution bump to take advantage of the iPhone 4 Retina Display.

The other useful feature for editing photos on your iPad with the Photoshop app is access to your snaps stored in a Photoshop.com account. You can sling 2GB of photos and videos up there, access them directly from the app and save your edits back to the cloud.

It’s great to see Photoshop popping up for free on the iPad but there do seem to have been a few teething problems. Recent reviews on iTunes suggest the app update isn’t working as it should be yet.
