Tesco has launched a SIM only deal at a rock bottom price, one which would appear to be targeting hard pressed parents getting rinsed by text-mad teenagers.

The Tesco SIM-only deal costs just £6 per month, and has a monthly rolling contract, so you’re not tied into any lengthy deals that take more than a year to run out. For your £6 a month you get unlimited texts and 100 minutes.

While that doesn’t seem like much, and doesn’t have any data rolled up with it, this isn’t aimed at your average smartphone user. It’s aimed at the younger market, who text before they call, and whose parents probably pay for their mobile, for a market where texting is the primary mobile activity.

Lance Batchelor, CEO of Tesco Mobile and Tesco Telecoms said: “This deal is ideal for a younger market or any text addict out there who doesn’t want to have to fork out a large amount each month but still wants to use their mobile to their hearts content.”

The icing on the cake though, is that the SIM only deal also earns you Tesco Clubcard points. Bonus.

I'm a student and I've just bought one of these Tesco SIMs. You really can't go wrong with that price. I have a laptop for all my internet needs so this is just perfect for me.

yep, im a parent and have come across this because of the reasons you mentioned. What i would like to know is, ''If this is a contract deal, would my son be able to use more than the 100 minutes allowance and it end up costing me for the extra calls''? Or, will it simply freeze any further calls once his minutes where used?
