The new iPod touch is almost certainly set to arrive in September and after the initial rumours about specs, we’ve now moved on to the traditional leaks from case manufacturers. A pic purporting to show the new iPod touch clad safely in a case has popped up online. Is this what the new iPod touch will look like or just some Photoshop fun for the silly season?
The French Apple observers at Hard Mac claim to have got their hands on photo illustration of the new iPod Touch thanks to an unnamed but indiscrete case maker. The image shows the new iPod touch with a slightly rounded back, mimicking the look of the iPhone 3GS.
The long-awaited iPod touch camera is clearly in evidence with a flash nestled beside it. That chimes with the new iPod touch details outlined by John Lewis a few months back. Hard Mac claims the source that slipped it the illustration previously tipped it the wink about last year’s iPod nano.
While it makes sense that Apple would keep a distinct look for the iPod touch rather than giving it the same look at the iPhone 4, the company has started to keep information on future products away from the notoriously leaky accessory makers.
During the iPhone 4 press conference Steve Jobs directly referenced the case makers inability to keep a secret: “Case makers have a history of showing off their new cases for our new products. The case vendors haven’t had a history of helping to keep our work under wraps.”
