There’s speculation afoot that the Blackberry Curve 8520 could be getting a Blackberry 6 update, as suggested by some leaked Blackberry developer brief slides. Are Blackberry poised to give a low end Blackberry device Blackberry 6?
The leaked slides show the Curve 8520 in with slides about BlackBerry 6, and could be pointing towards an update for the device. However, the assumption so far has been that Blackberry 6 will only come to devices with more than 512Mb of memory.
A spokesperson for Blackberry said that they couldn’t comment on the rumour, but suggested that the event we’ll be covering later this afternoon could yield more information, so watch this space!
The 8500 series itself is not new, and it’s unlikely that RIM would launch an update for the 8520 Blackberry Curve before a 9800 or 9700 Blackberry 6 upgrade though.
Blackberry 6 will add “an intuitive media experience right out of the box”, with upgarded YouTube, image grouping and better camera control, plus a podcast app.
Are you excited? Would you downgrade if lower end devices offered Blackberry 6? Drop us a line in the comments!
