PS3-3D-photos

The PS3 has already had a 3D gaming upgrade. Now Sony says it’ll get firmware updates to add 3D Blu-ray playback in September, as well as 3D photo support later this year. Mick Hocking, a director at SCEE spilled the beans this morning, and while there’s no confirmed release date for the PS3 3D upgrade, he stressed that Sony was still focussing on games as the “killer content for 3D.”

Dead Space 2: due in 2011Dead Space 2 isn’t due for release until early next year but if you are desperate to get a fix of zero-G Necromorph-on-Engineer action, EA are releasing a short prequel game to keep you going.

Dead Space: Ignition is being developed by original Dead Space developer Visceral Games and partner Sumo Digital. Unlike the action/rpg style gameplay of the full game, Ignition is described as “an interactive comic-style story” featuring choose-your-own-adventure style puzzle solving as well as some twitchy arcade action.

YouTube’s mobile site looks to threaten its iPhone app, with a massive update that makes the site act more like an app, with HTML5 video support. YouTube has also incorporated search suggestions, playlists, favourites, like and unlike functionality, into the mobile site, and claims to be is really nippy.

WoW: Blizzard to end forum anonymityActivision Blizzard is to force users of its gaming forums to sign in with their real-world names in an attempt to prevent bad behaviour and hate speech.

Anonymous trolls are the curse of many an internet forum but now World of Warcraft and StarCraft players will need to stand by their comments thanks to Activision Blizzard’s Real ID system. Real ID simply requires users to sign in to discussion forums using their real names, the theory being that while Thrunknor the Death Knight might be willing to use somewhat fruity and offensive language to diss his foes, plain old Kevin Smithers might feel a little more restrained.
