The Sky 3D channel has been popping out of pub TV screens since April but it’s now been announced that it’ll be launching in living rooms from October 1. As well as the Premier League Football that’s already had an airing on the Sky 3D channel, we’re promised a bountiful selection of 3D movies and live coverage of the Ryder Cup teeing off the launch weekend. Head through to find out what you’ll need to do to get Sky 3D…

As well as the chance to see Tiger Woods and co swinging their sticks at Celtic Manor over three days of Ryder Cup action, the Sky 3D launch weekend will also feature two 3D flicks, Bolt and Monsters vs Aliens.

Other 3D films lined up for an outing on Sky 3D in the run up to Christmas include Alice In Wonderland, Harry Potter & The Half Blood Prince and Ice Age – Dawn of the Dinosaurs. A special 3D documentary, Flying With Dinosaurs, presented by David Attenborough is also on the cards.

Sky says it’s inked deals with Disney, Fox (not surprising since Rupert Murdoch owns it), Universal, Warner Brothers, Paramount and Dreamworks to nab more 3D exclusives for Sky 3D.

Sky 3D will follow up the six Premier League matches shown earlier this year with further 3D coverage but it hasn’t revealed what other sport will get the extra-dimensional treatment yet. Sky has promised a full line of entertainment, arts and sports shows for the Sky 3D channel when it launches.

All Sky+ HD boxes are 3D ready but you’ll need to subscribe to the top Sky+ HD channel pack to get Sky 3D. The channel is compatible with the 3D TVs we’ve seen from Sony, Samsung, LG and Panasonic and will work with both active shutter and passive glasses.

If you’re subscribed to the right Sky+ HD package and have got a 3D TV ready and waiting in your living room, you’ll need to ring the Sky and let them know what tech your packing to get the channel activated.

Have you got hold of a 3D TV yet? And are you tempted by Sky 3D? The comments are ready and waiting for your 2D take on the 3D channel.
