HTC Desire Froyo review

Best for early adopters

If you want to get a Desire right now and not have to bother with changing your contract, you can pick up one unlocked & SIM-free from a variety of sources. Handtec has the best price we have seen – £379.75 incl VAT (£323 before VAT). They are out of stock until the 1st of August, though.

If you can’t wait that long (come on, its only next week) Pixmania will do you one for £380, although it will come witha  French charger & adapter, if that is a concern.

Best for data hogs

The HTC Desire is a brilliant mobile internet device – one of the best Android browsing experiences we have seen. You’ll definitely be wanting some data in your deal, but if web browsing is your main focus you could do worse than T-Mobile’s unlimited web deals. MobilePhonesDirect have a good bundle with 300 minutes, unlimited data and unlimited texts for £30/month on an 18 Month contract. If you want to stretch it to 24 months, you can get 600 minutes for the same price or go for £25/month with a fixed 500 MB of data.

You could also try this Virgin Mobile deal  -  £35 for 18 months offering unlimited web and 800 minutes. Not bad at all.

Best for chatterboxes

We can scarcely believe that this is true – surely it is a typo – but we have seen it listed on several sites now. A Vodafone deal via Mobiles.co.uk offering a jaw-bustingly huge 12000 minutes for just £42.50/month. Yes, that is twelve thousand, not twelve hundred.

On the off chance that this is just a temp hitting the zero key one to many times, how about an O2 contract for 18 months of unlimited chat for £60/month via OneStopPhoneShop?

Best overall deal

Given that the HTC Desire is such a great web device, we would recommend going for a deal with the most data for your money – you will almost definitely use it.  Virgin Mobile on  £35 for 18 months offers a good amount of chat (800 mintes) unlimited texts and unlimited web – not to be sniffed at.
