The Sanyo Xacti CA100, the latest waterproof HD camcorder from the Japanese gadget builders, has splashed into view just in time to catch the tail-end of the sun, sea and sand season. The Sanyo CA9, the last wave-friendly offering from the firm to reach the Electricpig Towers was a little underwhelming but the Sanyo Xacti CA100 comes with some seriously perked up specs…

Waterproof to a depth of 3m, the Sanyo Xacti CA100 will shoot 1080i HD footage at up to 60fps and grab 14MP still images. It’s rocking the familiar pistol-grip design we’ve seen on previous Sanyo video cameras with a 5x optical zoom (12x digital). It comes in shocking pink and yellow versions as well as a sedate black option.

The Sanyo Xacti CA100 records to SD and SDXC card and is compatible with Eye-Fi cards so you can fling your snaps straight up to the web via Wi-Fi. YouTube and Facebook uploading is helped by the fact that the camera grabs its clips in MP4. There’s also HDMI out to watch your mini-masterpieces on your HD TV.

Snapping still 14MP gives the Sanyo Xacti CA100 one up on its rivals the Kodak Playsport and Toshiba Camileo BW100 but both those cameras will give capture 1080p HD video.

The Sanyo Xacti CA100 is out now for the slightly pricey sum of £349 but you’re bound to be able to get a more palatable price if you shop around.
