The weekend’s end is here. That means it’s time to check out what the Electricpig staff have been opining about this week. Games, mobile phones, robotic winged things. It’s all here. Join us as we share what our writers thought about some of the tech they’ve had their hands on this week.
Don’t let our headline fool you. We’re not about to share with you the good and bad of Robbie rejoining his old karaoke partners. Actually in some ways it’s worse than that. EMI music is bringing out a We Sing Robbie Williams game for Wii. Jennifer Allan is not amused.
“As if rolling out “Angels” at every tear jerking opportunity ITV can find wasn’t enough, we’re now going to be bombarded with tinnitus-inducing renditions of “Rock DJ” from every Lambrini-glugging mother, aunt, and 20 something who just can’t let go the length and breadth of the country.”
Not so keen on the Windows Phone 7 design
Our reporter-Jennifer Allan managed to grab a quick hands-on with the Windows Phone 7 and came back slightly unimpressed with its design.
For example the hub pages have large titles that make it more difficult to peep update without pulling off facial gymnastics.
“The actual information, the names of contacts and authors of status updates being displayed are in roughly a font size 14, quite big, and easy to see. But the actual content of the status updates are tiny – maybe font size eight equivalent or smaller, and in a paler colour. This means that the actual information, the status updates that users want to read, is the smallest, tiniest portion of text on the page, with all the space given over to the great impractical scroller text at the top.”
Elsewhere, Ben Sillis might have found a pricy new hobby
Reviews Editor Ben Sillis went to a London park to review the Parrot Ar Drone. Don’t call it a radio controlled flying machine. You control it using an iPod Touch. He loved it but found it too pricy
“The real obstacle is the price,” he said. “But if you can slap down that much cash for what is essentially the ultimate boy’s toy, you’ll be strapping yourself in for the ride of your adult life.”
Say the words RPG to gamers and two words more than other will likely spring up – Final Fantasy. According to Damien McFerran FF has some competition on its hands.
“…it’s unashamedly old-school and isn’t likely to turn the heads of the Modern Warfare 2-loving brigade, but it offers well over 40 hours of hugely enjoyable gameplay and the near-revolutionary multiplayer aspect boosts its appeal even further. If any game can help the Dragon Quest franchise gain a foothold in the West, it’s this one.”
