We quite liked the Samsung Wave, as you can see from our review. It’s not u there with the iPhone or a decent Android phone in terms of flexibility, but it is solidly put together and well thought out. If you need a smartphone with a handful of good apps that you can just switch on and use then the Wave, with its Bada operating system, is one to check out.

If you are intrigued enough to want to pick one up, our Samsung Wave Ultimate buyer’s guide can help you find the best deals.

Best for early adopters

If you already have a contract, or want to source teh cheapest SIM-only deal you can find then the Samsung wave is available in handy unlocked form from, well, everywhere.

Normally we would point you to somewhere like Expansys (£304.99 unlocked) but Amazon.co.uk has a real bargain at the moment – an unlocked Samsung Wave in Ebony Grey for just £289.  – sixty whole quid off the RRP.

Best for data hogs

The Samsung Wave isn’t a web browsing powerhouse like, say, the iPhone 4 but it does have a decent browser in Dolfin and Bada apps make good use of your data tariff to sync with social networking sites and slurp up emails.

We think that Virgin Mobile’s offering of a free Wave on its Virgin £25 Web rate is good value if you value the net more that chat. You get unlimited data plus unlimited texts and 200 minutes of talk time. ‘Unlimited’ is constrained by Virgin’s fair use policy, but if you overstep the mark (hard to do on the Wave, we think) they have a flat 30p/day rate to fall back on. Best of all, this is an 18 month contract, which  we always prefer to a two-year lock in.

Best for chatterboxes

There are plenty of Samsung Wave  deals around for those who love to talk but we found a deal via Phones4U that offers a discount on Orange’s standard Panther 45 rate. £37.50/month gets you 1200 minutes and 750MB of data. You don’t get the unlimited texts offered by the standard Panther 45, but we think the 3000 you do get should keep you going during those rare moments when you aren’t talking the hind leg from a dog.

Best all round deal

It is possible to pay only £20 a month for the Wave on O2, but this deal comes with a paltry 100 minutes of talk time. We reckon the best combination of minutes, texts and data comes with a web-exclusive 18 month contract via Dialaphone. This is basically a £5 discount on Orange’s Dolphin 30 rate and offers 300 minutes, a not-too-shoddy 500 MB of data and unlimited text messages.
