It’s easy to meet new peeps when you’re camped in a field together to watch your favourite acts, and with the BlackBerry Pearl 3G, it’s even easier to make sure you stay in touch. Swapping contacts, whether the full 11 digits or just your BlackBerry Messenger profile, couldn’t be easier, as we show you in this BlackBerry Pearl 3G guide, so you can get back to the bands and shooting the breeze.

QR code connect
With its slim keyboard and full smartphone software skills, the BlackBerry Pearl 3G is the ultimate mobile for rapid fire BlackBerry Messenger chats. Adding new contacts your meet in the crowd is just as easy, as the Barcode option means you don’t have to recite complicated pin codes over the music: just choose Display My Barcode from your Messenger Profile, and your new friend can scan the screen quickly to get all your details. If you want to nab his or hers, just choose to scan a barcode from the main menu, and the camera will fire up to to do the same thing. Once that’s done, you can both chat away for free with no SMS limit, whether you’re both in the first row of the Womad festival, or at the front of the queue at the Reading Festival bar.

Other ways to hook up
If your new friend’s running an older version of BlackBerry Messenger, never fear: there are plenty of ways besides barcodes to add each other. From the Invite Contact option on the Messenger menu, you can simply add a person’s name, email address, or phone number, to send a request to connect. If you bump into someone you didn’t know was coming, it’s easy to invite them to BlackBerry Messenger or send their contacts to your other friends to welcome into the fold as well: in a chat, just choose the Send File option to send a BlackBerry Messenger contact out to your mates. If it’s an old friend, get them reconnected by inviting them to your festival BlackBerry Messenger group in just the same way: just open the group, choose Invite New Member, and presto.

Email your mobile
The BlackBerry Pearl 3G can sling out full contacts to any other phone or email address too of course: it’s a doddle to give your new acquaintance your mobile and online handles to chat over any instant messaging client in one fell swoop. Just choose your own contact card in the BlackBerry Pearl 3G’s smartphone address book, tap the menu button and scroll down to Send As Attachment: you can simply send the whole contact card an an attached email file, ready to install as soon as it drops in their inbox. If they send theirs to you, just pick Attach Contact to save it to your address book. It’s easy to exchange websites and social network usernames this way without having to tap them out one by one, and because the BlackBerry Pearl 3G uses the fastest mobile connection available, sending them is the work of just seconds.
