Dead Rising 2 won’t hit consoles in the UK until October, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get a dose of Zombie-bashing horror comedy to whet your appetite. Capcom has created a feature length movie based on the series and will be releasing it in episodic form to tease fans of the game.
One of the most frequently made comments about the original Dead Rising is that it plays out very much like an interactive movie – it is even stuffed full of ‘tribute’ easter eggs for classic Zombie flicks like Dawn of the Dead. No surprise, then, that the makers of the game decided to make their own Zombie movie to promote the sequel.
Zombrex Dead Rising Sun is directed by series creator Keiji Inafune and shot on location in Japan. It follows the adventures of two brothers as they attempt to escape for a quarantined area of Tokyo without falling prey to the Zombie hordes.
As well as being a self-contained story, Zombrex Dead Rising Sun also ties in with DR 2 and the ‘interquel’ Dead Rising: Case Zero. Zombrex, as fans of the games will already know, is the fictional drug that can suppress the Zombifying parasite which infects humans in the game.
Xbox Live users will be able to get first dibs on watching the story unfold as the feature length flick is doled out in eight episodic chunks from the 4th of August. After a week on Xbox Live, each episode will appear on the Dead Rising Sun website so that non-Xbox-owning mere mortals can get a look.
If the idea of waiting a few days between each episode is too much for you, a DVD copy of the complete film will be bundled with the Dead Rising 2: Zombrex Edition box set, for your viewing pleasure.
