Opera Mini 5.1 for Android has bounced out of beta and into the Android Market. That’s great news if you’re packing one of the latest bunch of big screen Android phones like the Dell Streak or the Samsung Galaxy S as there’s an improved page layout to make use of that extra space. Besides the improved layout and Opera’s claims of faster page rendering, Opera Mini 5.1 for Android adds tabbed browsing and larger, more touchscreen-friendly icons. The Speed Dial feature from full-fat Opera is also included so you can quickly get at 9 of your favourite websites from the thumbnail grid.

Other features slipped into Opera Mini 5.1 for Android include a virtual keyboard (which was missing from the previous version) and password management so you don’t have to keep tapping in your credentials. The Android browser has had a serious overhaul in Android 2.2 but if you’re still waiting for an update, it’s well worth giving Opera Mini 5.1 a shot.
