The iPhone 4 is causing problems for UK operators still trying to shift the iPhone 3GS. A source close to Three, which has yet to start selling the iPhone 4, has told us that the network will stop selling the iPhone 3GS White from today and has seriously increased its rewards for affiliates pushing the iPhone 3GS Black 8GB. It looks like Three is gearing up to get the iPhone 4 on the shelves and suggests there’s an outside chance that the rare iPhone 4 White might be on its way to the UK…
Our source says Three will pull the iPhone 3GS White from the virtual shelves of the 3Store from 1pm today due to stock issues. That could suggest that Apple is dialling down the supply of iPhone 3GS White models and other networks already only offer the iPhone 3GS Black 8GB.
Meanwhile Three has seriously upped the commission it offers to affiliates for getting sales of the iPhone 3GS. While most phones only net sites around £30, getting Three a new iPhone 3GS customer is now worth £125. Unsurprisingly, it seems that interest in nabbing an iPhone 3GS has nosedived since the iPhone 4 appeared.
Three currently offers the iPhone 3GS for £129 on a 24-month, £25 a month deal with customers having to stump up £35 a month to grab the phone for free. Could the desire to shift its current stock before it begins selling the iPhone 4 even mean price cuts are on the way? It’s not unimaginable.
Let us know: are you still interested in the iPhone 3GS? What kind of deal would the networks need to offer for you to choose it over the spanking new iPhone 4? If you’ve been offered a unmissable bargain on an iPhone 3GS, tell us what was on the table.
