After our report last week of The Times iPad app crashing, we received a comment, which acknowledged that yes, there were problems with the app, and The Times “is working ’round the clock to get these fixed as soon as possible for our customers viewing with the iPad”.

The person doing the firefighting on The Times behalf? A lone work experience kid. Delving into the Electricpig comments system we unearthed the e-mail address: prefixed with “work experience” at the PR firm who deals with The Times iPad app. Surely, Murdoch’s reputation deserves a little more care and attention than that? He’s on the cusp of a digital revolution here!

The PR workie was speaking on behalf of The Times, not bad before you’ve landed your first job, and it looks like work experience kids have to do the digital cleaning up as well as in office tidying now. The PR firm were quite baffled by the comment, and nobody knew who could have left the it, despite us having the e-mail address.

They couldn’t put us in touch or identify the commenter as “we have about 15 workies in the office,” a spokesperson said, “and it doesn’t make much sense that we would comment on the app, because we didn’t build it”.

The anonymous workie commenter did not have a comment on the state of the crashes either, but passed us on to a News International email address that bounced back.

So as yet, nobody has been able to update us on whether The Times iPad app has had its problems ironed out, but we would like to add that the introductory £1 offer gives you a month, not a week’s worth of content from behind the paywall. At least PR work experience kids are well informed…

Are you having problems with the iPad app? Or have you been a digital workie? Let us know in the comments section below!

I love this. I had some close shaves when I was a Work Experience (including getting a BBC Radio car stuck in a tree), but letting them take charge of Murdoch's reputation for quality? Seems a bit much to ask in the first week!

Or just shows how little they've thought through their new media strategy.

the ipad app is a heap of xxxx

even more irritating is that Standard Times online sub usesnFlash so no good for ipad and the other app only gives half the content. Sunday Times is fine.
