iTunes streaming rumours seem to be the new “Apple is making a tablet” rumours, though they’ve been around since long before Cupertino snapped up song startup LaLa. Now though, they’re back with a vengeance, Wi-Fi syncing, and word of two new iPods with camera skills.
Phone scooper Boy Genius Report says it’s heard from a reliable source that Apple is indeed working on iTunes streaming, letting you stream media from its store to wherever you are, and getting round capacity sizes which are starting to look bit small for all the HD video you can now buy.
Intriguingly though, the Apple source also tells BGR that you’ll be able to stream anything you’ve already bought over the internet from your computer as well, which would obviously take a load off Apple’s servers. Whether to not this will work for both Mac and PCs remains to be seen.
Next up, iTunes syncing over Wi-Fi will also be flicked on, which is great news for anyone fed up of chaining their iPhone to a desktop over a USB cable, and this function will add apps and calendar or contact changes too.
Finally, the report says that no fewer than “two new devices” with a camera or camcorder are in the pipeline for Apple’s Autumn event (Which has yet to be announced for this year, but is usually where the company unveils new iPods). Last year saw the first iPod nano with a video camera – could an iPod touch be joining it at long last?
Now it’s worth taking this with a pinch of salt, as BGR’s track record with Apple is hit and miss. While it was spot on with leaked images of the iTunes update that brought social networking integration, it also posted ludicrously forged photos of a supposed new Apple remote last year. But come on – why would Apple reject a Wi-Fi syncing app if it wasn’t priming one itself? iTunes streaming, here we come.
