HTC Desire owners, listen up. Those with an HTC Legend in your pocket, you too. Oh, and you show-offs with the new HTC Wildfire in your hand, prick up your ears. HTC has an update for you all, bringing its Android smartphones up to Android 2.2, or Froyo to its friends. The bad news, you’ll have to wait until October to get it and it could come as early as tomorrow!
HTC let slip its update plans in a statement, stating that after Google’s update bringing Froyo for Nexus One, it would update its own phones (after tweaking its HTC Sense UI, of course) later this year.
HTC told Pocket-Lint, “We are working hard with our partners to update the HTC Sense experience on Froyo [2.2] and distribute it to our customers as fast as possible. We expect to release updates for several of our 2010 models including Desire, Legend and Wildfire beginning in Q3.”
That pesky Q3 timescale means the earliest HTC Desire, HTC Legend or HTC Wildfire owners will get their update is October tomorrow, although it could be as late as September 30th. (Sorry for the mistake, our calendar, and brain, got a bit muddled)
HTC’s own interface adds many of its own enhancements to Android already, including a neat “leap” feature to see all homescreens at once. But it’s the slew of software and performance enhancements that’ll really be worth waiting for, if the Sense UI doesn’t add too much bulk on top.
Have you got a HTC Desire, HTC Legend or a HTC Wildfire? Let us know in the comments what you’re looking forward to most in your taste of Froyo.
