We heard whispers about a Nokia N9 phone a few weeks ago, but the leak then suggested it would be running MeeGo, Nokia’s smart and much hyped replacement for Maemo 5. Yet this legit looking device is running Symbian 3. Could it be a Nokia C9 instead?
Blog Negri Electronics has got a hold of what is unmistakably a Nokia prototype and posted a few screenshots, claiming it to be the Nokia N9 with an eight megapixel camera and a slide out keyboard, similar to that of the Nokia N97, but with four lines instead of three.
But while the Nokia N8 design cues and a snap shot of the software screen (Model “N00″) suggest this is indeed the Nokia N9, things aren’t quite so clearcut. For one, established news sources such as Reuters have been reporting that Nokia intends to drop Symbian on N-series phones (Its strongest smartphone brand, ever since the N95) in favour of MeeGo.

Secondly, look at the photos a bit closer, and you might just see above the top left corner of the screen of the Nokia N9 the code “C0″. Could this Nokia N9 actually be a Nokia C9, destined to go in at the top of its cheery Symbian messaging C-series line? We certainly wouldn’t rule it out.
Of course, how Nokia’s rumoured new S-series fits into all this still remains unclear, but with the Nokia N9/C9 now pictured, we wouldn’t be too surprised if we started seeing the other phones mentioned in this month’s leaked document springing up soon – the Nokia E7, C7 and X7.
