iPad sales hit the three million mark yesterday, a whopping three million in 80 days, making the iPad look like one of the most successful new product launches in recent history.
It looks like the iPhone 4 will be a close contender though, with American network providers AT&T saying it took 600,000 pre-orders, making demand ten times what it was for the iPhone 3G, which sold 1million in the first three days. There’s currently 11,000 iPad apps developed specifically for the iPad, with another 225,000 and counting in total in the app store.
The news comes in the wake of price slashes this week for both the Kindle and Nook, making it look like Apple have won the war, again. The Kindle has been slashed by $70, bringing the cost down to £172 for UK users.
But despite the thrill of the iPad (I’m definitely seeing more around London, and one look in the Apple store shows that interest isn’t lagging yet), the thrill of the iPhone 4 looks like it might be even bigger. We only have to wait till tomorrow to find out.
