iTunes 9.2, the iPhone 4 and iOS 4-ready update for Apple’s jukebox software, has been unleashed after bouncing into the hands of developers as a beta last week. As well as readying you for iPhone 4 and iOS4 on older iPhones and the iPod Touch, iTunes 9.2 packs in plenty of other tweaks including new iBooks features. Read on for a rundown of what you’ll find in iTunes 9.2…
iBooks PDF support is incoming and iTunes 9.2 lets you get your library ready. You can now drag PDF documents and eBooks directly into the Books section of iTunes 9.2 where they’ll sit proudly beside any ePub files you’ve already racked there. iTunes 9.2 also adds iPhone iBooks support.
Another iOS 4-focused feature is application folders. You’ll be able to organise apps into folders in iTunes 9.2 as well as on your phone just as you can currently reorder home screens.
Apple promises that iTunes 9.2 will load album artwork more swiftly in Coverflow. Synching should be speedier too. If you’ve found yourself staring at your iPhone for ages during syncing, Apple says iTune 9.2 will solve that with faster back-ups for iPhone and iPod Touch owners running iOS 4.
There are likely to be some cosmetic changes to iTunes 9.2 that won’t be prominent until iOS 4 officially arrives on June 21. You can grab iTunes 9.2 now through iTunes or from the Apple website.
Let us know what you make of iTunes 9.2. Have you spotted any other new additions or bugs? If you’re already running iOS 4, we’d love to know what you make of the new features.
