The iPhone 4 UK price race was started by Apple when it announced unlocked iPhone 4 prices yesterday but Orange has become the first UK network to reveal its iPhone 4 UK data and tariff deals. You’ll have to dig deep in your pockets to get an iPhone 4 UK free on the network and a pay as you go iPhone 4 will cost you nearly as much as buying an unlocked phone outright. Read on for a rundown of the Orange iPhone 4 UK price deals…

If you’re hoping to pick up an iPhone 4 UK on Orange for free, you’ll need to grab an 16GB model on the £75 a month, 24 month contract. That’s the only deal offering the new iPhone for nowt. It’ll also give you unlimited calls and texts plus 100 European roaming minutes and 3GB of tethering. That’s a hell of a lot of calls and texts to chew through and we’re not sure many people will manage it.

Orange isn’t offering the iPhone 4 32GB model for free on any of its iPhone 4 UK price plans. The cheapest you’ll be able to get the larger capacity is £99, again on a £75 a month, 24 month contract. All of the Orange iPhone 4 UK data deals promise “unlimited” data but there’s a fair use cap of 750MB so that’s the real number you should be focused on.

The leaked Vodafone iPhone 4 UK deals suggest it will give all iPhone 4 UK customers 1GB of data while O2 unlimited data has been ditched but it will offer 1GB of data to customers who opt for a £60 a month contract. We’re still waiting on official announcements from them.

Plump for iPhone 4 on pay as you go from Orange and you’ll find yourself slapping down almost as much as you would for an unlocked iPhone direct from Apple. An iPhone 4 16GB will cost you £480 amounting to a save of £19 while the 32GB model shaves just £29 off Apple’s price at £570.

While Orange has slapped up its iPhone 4 UK price plans, you can’t actually pre-order your phone from it yet. There’s still just a link to register interest. Come on networks! We’re waiting to give you our cash.

Take a peek at the Orange iPhone 4 UK price plans in our gallery above and let us know what you make of the deals. Has Orange done enough to get you to go for its iPhone 4 offers?

Thought that seemed too good to be true, the fair usage policy means a cap of 750 mb, not GB as the article says. That would've actually been a pretty good deal ;)

      Hi Rowett3000,

My fingers were faster than my brain there! Now amended. If only it was 750GB.

    Hi all,

OK I'll admit it i just don't understand this at all as Apple have shown us the iPhone4 16GB is in the same price range as most of the other top end smart phones although admittedly the 32GB is £100 more than nearly all of them.

It also looks like none of the Networks are any longer giving true Unlimited Internet on their iPhone plans which was until now virtually an unique differentiator and may of explained the extra cost involved in owning a iPhone although not really IMO.

So if the iPhone4 excluding the 32GB costs the same as most other smart phones and now gets similar if not the same allowances for data to other smart phone plans just why is or should the iPhone4 cost so much more?

The only reason i can come up with is that the Networks know and feel iPhone users will pay it so are going to charge it and get as much money as they can. But for those that can afford to do so buying your iPhone Sim free and getting a Sim only deal seems to offers huge savings over getting one on contract.

Why would anyone buy a locked phone and save £20/30? I think this is ridiculous. I would have gone with Orange if they had dropped the price £50-60 but this is just ridiculous…

    • bensillis

Yeah the PAYG strikes me as terrible bad value. But of course, you'll be able to get one on launch day at least, where as you won't from the Apple store now it appears.

  • Cadillacmoon

Hmm, This seems to suggest it will be available in white on release day too?! The networks getting an exclusivity over apple themselves?! Surely this can't be correct!

  • Marcobermann

    Hi all,

Well apparently the PAYG price may not be such a bad deal as you thought as i have read apparently all the new iPhone4's are going to be unlocked as that is how Apple are selling them to the Networks with no Network customisations either.

Anyone know whether the orange pay as you go will be locked or not for definite?

    • bensillis

Hi Matthew, we can't say for certain but it is extremely likely it will be locked. They offer it at a (slightly) reduced rater to make sure you buy credit/a monthly plan on the same network and make more money in the long run.

Thanks for your help, I imagine I will buy from apple direct – just to have the potential of carrier change in the future…

        • bensillis

A wise move I think Matthew, considering how little the networks are apparently subsidising the phone
