Well. We knew Portal 2 was on the way, but the mind bending game didn’t seem destined for Sony’s console, what with developer Valve repeatedly slagging off the machine. But lo, either somebody’s taken a bung or they just enjoy the taste of humble pie, because the company just graced Sony’s E3 keynote to unveil the game in a brand new trailer, and for the PS3.
Valve is one of the biggest names in gaming: it created the hit Half Life series, the award winning Portal, and the PC game download service Steam. But it’s steered well clear of the PS3 since Half Life 2, dubbing it “too complicated” to develop for, and even a “disaster”.
That’s about to change with Portal 2. Live on stage at Sony’s E3 keynote in LA, Valve boss Gabe Newell took to the stage to announce the game for PS3 in 2011, and showed off a very brief trailer, which revealed little other than some impressive graphics and the fact that yes, there will be portals to pop through. We’re scrambling for a trailer to show you.
Beyond Portal 2 though, a detente between Valve and Sony means great news for PS3 gamers: Valve also makes the excellent Left 4 Dead series, and we’d love to see it go cross platform too. Will it? Fingers crossed we soon see.
