The Xbox 360 slim is out in officialdom, at long last. It’s smaller, quieter, and finally has Wi-Fi built in. But has it really been worth the wait? Have your say in our poll!

On stage at E3 in LA today, Microsoft’s Don Matrick revealed the new Xbox 360 slim that leaked out yesterday with a flourish – by pulling it out of the inside of a hollow current gen Xbox 360.

It should be a welcome move: the Xbox 360 hasn’t changed size since 2005, while the Sony PS3 has already been trimmed down. But dig a little deeper and the changes are only skin deep. The 250GB hard drive of the new Xbox 360 slim was already available in certain limited edition current gen 360s, while the N-standard Wi-Fi was already available as an accessory, albeit a pricey one.

And then of course, there’s the dreaded Red Ring Of Death issue which caused many Xbox 360s to conk out. Microsoft’s only recently plugged this gaping hole – will a new motherboard in the Xbox 360 slim trigger it all over again?

So, we want to know, has the Xbox 360 slim been worth wait? Will you be buying one? Vote in our poll, then hit the comments with your two cents, and we’ll be back with your verdict on the Xbox 360 slim before you know it.

It looks awesome. Built-in Wi-Fi. Oh yes!

show me the same poll you did for the ps3 slim and i'll be happy this is not biased.

as far as i'm concerned is a nice revamp, and its exactly the same price as the old 360. existing owners need not apply, but new owners have something nice.

Hi Bazcom2k – what way do you think we're leaning? We're asking readers for their views. Incidentally, we've now given the slim PS3 five stars twice! I love it.

  • SamKieldsen

Smaller is better, but I'm more interested in its purported “whisper quiet” operation than its size. The Xbox 360's hairdryer drone has always been the most annoying thing about it for me.

Can't say I noticed the old Xbox fan on my elite unless it was idling / waiting for me to make a cup of tea. Game / movie noise tended to drown it out, mostly. Maybe you've been spending too much time Tweeting and Facebooking from yours, Sam? :D

      • SamKieldsen

It's not just the fan though – the disc drive whirs like a washing machine during Red Dead Redemption. I wish the Xbox was as quiet as the PS3, because I use the Xbox about ten times as much.

I'll have you know I do all my Facebooking and Tweeting the old-fashioned way!

I've got an older xbox, pre-hdmi. I've been approached by McLaren to use it for their F1 wind tunnel testing.
It's been fairly hot lately so the fans are going full blast!
Bring on a quiet slim – I'll wait for an updated db test :)

Looks great to me. Slimmed down consoles ftw!

The nice thing is that it has a 250 gb hard drive and wireless n for the same price as the current elite due to cheaper manufacturing.

  • bensillis

I can take or leave noise and even size (since the Xbox has always been flat on top and bottom and hence stackable) but built in Wi-Fi is a godsend. I think it's disgraceful it took Microsoft this long to figure out they shouldn't be selling it as an extra accessory.

I have a release day 360 which has never been replaced, always dreaded the red ring of death so I will be trading mine in IMMEDIATELY before the trade price drops to zero and getting one of these babys as soon as it comes out. Looks a lot better, 250 gb hard drive is excellend and built in WIFI so I dont have any cables anymore, Love it!

  • Andy

I have the old 10gb model so theres no question that i would love a slimmer black model to go with the rest of my media boxes but if i already have the wireless addon so if the only extra feature this will give me is a quieter experience then its hardly worth spending the extra money.
If i didn't have one though and was trying to decide between this and a ps3 then theres no question i would get one!

  • 2commonsense

I got one. 4gb, then put a WD Scorpio 7200 rpm in it because the stock 5400 rpm is crap. It IS quieter, and just seems like a better design.

The 250GB hard drive of the new Xbox 360 abbreviate was already accessible in assertive bound copy accepted gen 360s, while the N-standard Wi-Fi was
already available as an accessory, albeit a pricey one.
