The Samsung Wave is smart, popular, strong – if it was a kid you knew at school, you’d hate him. As a mobile, you can’t help but love the Wave, especially as it can organise your social life better than you ever could on your own. Read on to find out everything about the Samsung Wave’s social networking street cred.

Everything, all in one place
The key to the Samsung Wave‘s social networking skills is the My Account section. It may sound boring, but it’s what makes the phone a social powerhouse. Here, you can input all your logins, for Google Mail, Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, Windows Live and several others, letting your phone check for updates to all of them while you’re doing other things.
Within My Account you can also choose how often your Wave heads down to the social networking water cooler to see what’s going on. Social butterflies can set it to every half an hour while more chilled-out users might just want a once-a-day update. Setting the automatic updates to happen less frequently will use less battery, and less data too.
Knowing where to look?My Account may keep your phone up-to-date with all that Facebook and Twitter can throw at it, but it’s not much use unless you have somewhere to look at all your friends’ latest babblings. That’s where Social Hub and the Feeds & Update widget come in.
The Social Hub app is the friendly face of the social networking and email factory that is My Account. It’s an inbox that combines all of the services, email and networking, that your Samsung Wave is signed-up to. The main page of the Social Hub is an easy-to-navigate list of everything from Google Mail to Facebook. Tap on one and you can check out all the latest activity, without ever leaving the hub. For quickly checking out emails, Tweets and status updates all within a minute or two, the Samsung Wave’s Social hub is unbeatable.
For an even quicker check-up of your social situation, you need to drop the Feeds & Update widget on a free home screen. Like the Social Hub, it takes updates from all your social networks, and arranges them into a a single stream for quick flicking through. This widget is our pick for checking out Twitter updates on the train, or when you’ve only got a minute or two to spare.
Going deeper underground
Social network integration in the Samsung Wave doesn’t end there. If your friends’ contact details are fully filled-in, you can also check out social networking updates from your call log. The standard view of the log looks just like any other mobile, with tabs for missed and taken calls, but if you scroll right, you’ll unlock another stack of options.
The second page of the call log features SNS (Social Networking Service), e-mail and IM (instant messaging) tabs, letting you check out your IM conversation history alongside any calls you might have missed.
The Samsung Wave knows where it’s at – social networks are becoming just as important as calls and texts on your mobile, and it does a much better job of bringing you the social networking goods, wherever you are and whatever you’re doing, than almost any other mobile out there. It’s all at your fingertips, you just have to look.
