Being connected to the net while you’re out and about is one thing, but it’s no good if you’re left constantly having to check your email inbox to see if you have any new mails. The Samsung Wave does all the boring bits for you so you can sit back and relax while your mobile keeps you in-sync with the world outside you.

Pushing on up
Push e-mail is what makes your e-mails pop up on your phone as if they were text messages. This comes in handy in other ways than just getting quick delivery of spam mail throughout the day – link the amil address with your Facebook account and you’ll be able to see whenever anyone invites you to an event, or writes on your wall, within seconds. You can do the same with Twitter, for new friends and direct messages.
Services like Google Mail use push e-mail automatically, so there’s no extra work for the Samsung Wave to do, but not all email services are quite as advanced as Google’s. The Samsung Wave has a neat trick up its sleeve to make up for this. It fills in with its own version of the Push feature.
Any mail or social networking services you log into in the Wave’s My Account section will be update automatically in the background. You can set how often the phone checks for updates too – from every half an hour to once a day.
My Account supports loads of different online services, including Google mail, Windows Live, Twitter, Facebook, Myspace,Yahoo, Microsoft Exchange, and you can setup your email account manually too if you use a lesser-known provider. Push email makes sure you’re never out of the loop, even when you’re too busy to check your phone regularly. With Push, you always feel like your phone is working for you, not the other way around.
When instant isn’t fast enough
Push email is great for keeping in contact with a gang of mates while you’re out doing other things, but it won’t quite cut it when you absolutely need to know what’s going down, right now. Calling or texting is always an option, but with IM you can get results just as quickly, and without paying a penny, dime or dinheiro.
Using IM is just like being in a chat room with just one other friend, so it has the direct texty feel of an SMS with the speed of a call, if your fingers can keep up. The Samsung Wave has one of the most responsive touchscreens in town, so it’s up to the task.
There’s a built-in IM app in the Samsung Wave, which supports top IM services like AIM and GTalk, and will let you log in with your existing account details. Just input your details and you’re good to go – the Wave will do the rest, importing your contacts and groups instantly.
The Wave’s contacts book lets you keep track of your friends’ IM details, with space for more than a half-dozen aliases from different IM networks – if you hang out with bonafide IM nuts. There’s also an IM history stream you can check out past conversations from, within the call log. The Samsung Wave has amazing IM powers, just hidden off the front page of the feature list – probably to please those who think IM is for kids. They’re missing out.
