The iPhone 4 is here. Apple’s newest handset unveiled in all its high-resolution glory. Want a peep at all the official photos fresh from WWDC in the US? Here’s where to get them. Read on, and gorge your peepers on our gallery.
The new iPhone 4 has leaked more times than a shot-through sieve, but we’re still bowled over by its luscious high-resolution screen. Apple’s calling it a “Retina display,” since at arms length it’s impossible for the human eye to distinguish individual pixels.
The iPhone 4 packs in almost the same number of pixels as the iPad, despite its screen being much smaller. The result is a sharp display that Apple thinks will make shoppers swoon.
It’s all wrapped in a glass enclosure, with a metallic rim that acts as the new iPhone 4’s antenna system. The entire iPhone 4 package is 24% thinner than the iPhone 3GS says Apple, at 9.3mm.
Inside the iPhone 4 you’ll find Bluetooth, N-standard Wi-Fi, GPS and 3G data, as well as an all-new gyroscopic sensor, giving developers true six-axis control, a lot like Wii Motion Plus.
At the heart of the iPhone 4 is the Apple A4 processor, the same powerhouse thundering away inside the iPad. And what’s it running? iPhone OS 4 of course, except it now has a new name: say hello to iOS 4.
