FaceTime is here, and about time too. The iPhone 4 featurewill allow for video calling, by way of the front facing camera, Apple has finally revealed. And to demo it, Steve Jobs chatted with Apple design guru Jonathan Ive on stage.

The conversation was plagued by network problems, with Steve Jobs calling for journalists present at the San Francisco keynote to disconnect from the theatre Wi-Fi, but ought to work without a hitch over Wi-Fi not being hogged by hordes of Apple followers. Unfortunately FaceTime is only over Wi-Fi for now – you won’t be able to make video calls over 3G on the iPhone 4 – but that should at least guarantee smooth conversations.

Interestingly, FaceTime will also allow you to use the rear camera of the iPhone 4 for chats with other iPhone 4 owners, though obviously you won’t be able to see them if you do. Anyone want to sell a mirror system accessory?
