The iPad and Flash cold war between Apple and Adobe continues to heat up with Apple’s latest addition to its website: a showcase of all the HTML5 friendly media that will run on an iPad or an iPhone. Apple’s beginning to put its money where its mouth is, but will the rest of the web follow suit?
While Apple already has a roll call of partner websites which offer HTML5 video which can be streamed in web browsers and to the iPad and iPhone without the need for Adobe’s Flash software, it’s now taken to showcasing what the new standards can offer on its own site, along with CSS3 and JavaScript, which both the company’s devices support also.
Head on over to apple.com/html5 and you can see everything from a streaming video to a rotating picture gallery working within a supported browser (Safari). We checked out the clip of the new Tron movie on an iPad, and sure enough it plays silky smooth within the web page: you can argue over the pros and cons of having Flash on a mobile device like the iPad or iPhone, but there’s no denying that your average consumer won’t be able to tell the difference. All they’ll see is working video.

Head on over to the page now and take your sides, but don’t count Adobe out – with more Flash mobile support coming, things are only just kicking off.
