Portal 2 has had its E3 launch cancelled. Normally that would mean the game was delayed but this is Valve we’re talking about and they’ve released a cryptic press release promising a surprise in place of the planned press conference. Could Portal 2 be joined by Half Life 3?
In the run up to Steam for Mac launching, clues started to pop up that we thought hinted at the arrival of Half Life 3. They turned out to be about Portal 2 but rumours of the third installment of Half Life have been rattling around ever since. Now Valve has put out a mischievous memo.
The message is from Aperture Science, the organisation prominently feature in both Portal and Half Life: “Aperture Science is pleased to inform you that we have partnered with Valve to announce the gala CANCELLATION of the June 14 Portal 2 event…the event will be replaced by a surprise.”
The new Portal ending that popped up a few months back certainly implied that there would be a bigger crossover between the world of Portal and Half Life on the way. We’d put money on Half Life 3 popping up as the first Portal arrived as a Half Life 2 spin-off.
But do you think different? Is Valve preparing to hit us with the long awaited Half Life 3 or could it be something else entirely? Hit us with your speculation in the comments.
Due June 14 | £TBC | Valve
