JooJoo creator, Chandra Rathakrishnan, has popped up again, just in time for the iPad UK launch to offer his view on Apple’s tablet. How convenient! As you’d expect from someone touting an iPad rival, he’s delivered quite a tongue-lashing. Predictably, the lack of iPad Flash support is in the firing line but Rathakrishnan also turns his ire towards the iTunes App Store. Does he have a point or is the JooJoo man just suffering from sour grapes?
Our JooJoo tablet hands on left us feeling a little underwhelmed. Sure the iPad rival has Flash but it’s also got half the battery life and a decidedly bulkier body. But, of course, Rathakrishnan thinks our iPad UK review got it all utterly wrong.
Commenting on the huge iPad UK queues, the JooJoo creator says: “Every Apple product launch is great theatre. The attention they’ve brought to the tablet market is great.” But then he turns nasty: “We don’t see the need for an app store. An app store sells stripped down versions of actual websites.” The creators of Sam & Max or the Wired iPad app would probably have a bone to pick with him there.
He continues: “JooJoo delivers the entire Internet – including Flash-based websites. That means you can play full versions of games, watch full-screen HD video and not have to be constrained within the ‘walled garden’ of the iPad environment.” He dubs the iPad “another storage device with web capabilities”.
The Steve Jobs Flash diatribe got plenty of people grumbling but can a tablet like the JooJoo truly compete with the might of Apple? Let us know whether you think Rathakrishnan has a point or is on a hiding to nothing.
