iPad accessories should be at the top of your shopping list if you’ve just emerged from the Apple Store with the new tablet. Steve Jobs and co have been touting the iPad as an all singing, all dancing, multi purpose machine, and one nice niche it’s ideal for is art.

With the right iPad app, you can create masterpieces within a few strokes of your fingers, but there’s some great gear on sale already that’ll improve your pictures even more. Here’s our round up of the best iPad accessories that iPad Picassos should buy today.

Pogo Sketch Stylus
For the snowbound, the Pogo Sketch Stylus is one of the most essential iPad accessories for navigating the iPhone with gloves on. But the clever, capacitive screen friendly pen has a much more useful purpose on the iPad: it’s a fantastically accurate drawing tool, letting you use iPad apps to doodle with a digital pencil rather than your chubby chipolata of a finger. For a few pennies over £15 on Amazon, it’s a no brainer for budding artists.

Wacom Tablet Glove
The iPad’s bezel is so large, of course, to stop you from tapping unwanted icons by accident while you hold it. But even that’s not enough to stop unwanted brush strokes on drawing iPad apps if you’re leaning on a table as though the iPad were a piece of paper. You could mock up one of the cheapest iPad accessories going by wearing a glove to stop this, sure, but the specialised Wacom Tablet Glove is a much more comfortable solution, that hooks around the most likely culprit: the little pinkie of your hand. That, and it’ll make you look even more cool while handling an iPad.

iPad accessories: must have add ons

Apple iPad case
We’re not going to sugarcoat things: for most intents and purposes, the official iPad case is one of the worst iPad accessories out there. It’s overpriced and awful, with a terrible rubber feel. That said, it does a great job of elevating the iPad at a shallow angle for propping up and knocking up a masterpiece on – with that Pogo stylus, say.
