iPad UK launch day is just three days away and coincidentally, Three has just revealed its iPad 3G data plans. So how do its monthly packages stack up compared to the iPad UK data plans proffered by Vodafone, Orange and O2? We’ve taken a close look at the figures…

Three is only offering two iPad UK data plans. You can plump for 1GB data for £7.50 or 10GB for £15. Both the micro-SIM deals are on a rolling monthly contract.

In comparison, Vodafone is offering two rolling monthly packages either 1GB of data for £10 or 5GB for £25. It also has an international roaming option which starts at £9.99 a day for 50MB of data.

O2 iPad 3G UK data plans start at £2 a day for 500MB of data. A 1GB rolling monthly package will cost you £10 while a larger 3GB data bundle is £15. All three deals come with unlimited WiFi from The Cloud and BT Openzone hotspots.

Orange iPad 3G UK data packages start at £2 a day for 200MB of data. A weekly data package of 1GB is available for £7.40. Recurring monthly deals of 3GB (£15) and 10GB (£25) are also available and come with unlimited WiFi browsing at BT Openzone hotspots.

With its £10 iPad UK data plan, Three is offering twice as much data as Vodafone’s top iPad 3G data option for £15 less. It offers the same saving compared to the top of the line Orange iPad UK data plan and gives you 7GB more than the best package from O2 for £5 less.

You could also just avoid the official deals entirely and create your own DIY microSIM. But remember, you do so at your own risk – both to your fingers and your iPad.

If you’ve already submitted an iPad UK preorder are you tempted to ditch your chosen micro-SIM for one of Three’s deals? Let us know which network you’ve picked and why.

Out Friday | From £7.50 per month | Three

What is meant by £2 a day on the O2 and Orange networks? I assume this is a one off charge for X amount of mb’s that expire after one day or something like that?

      Hi CJ84,
Yep, that’s exactly it. They’ll charge you £2 for a lump of data which will expire after 24 hours if you haven’t used it all up.

        Hi Mic.
Thanks for clarifying that. As an O2 iPhone customer I shall probably go for one of their plans, thanks mainly to their excellent customer service. According to my iPhone bill I get through about 380Mb a month over 3G (MobileMe, Spotify, Facebook and general browsing etc) So it sounds like a 1GB @ £10 will suffice. We all have our preferences but might you guys at ElectricPig be able to suggest which is the best network when it comes to 3G coverage and speeds!?

What does “rolling monthly” mean? I have a USA 3G Ipad and will be in the UK for only a month, so need a contract free option, thanks.
