Seesaw, the on-demand video service formerly known as Project Kangaroo, has launched a new rental service. So as well as nabbing shows from BBC, ITV and Five for free, you can now rent them and others from MTV and Comedy Central. So how much will an episode of South Park set you back on Seesaw?

Seesaw launched back in February offering a free TV catchup service as well as older shows from the BBC and Channel 4 archives including some cult classics like Spaced.

The new Seesaw rental service is on top of the current free streaming option. You can rent single programmes for up to 30 days with 48 hours of viewing once you start to watch the show or rent a whole series. Individual episodes will set you back between 99p and £1.19 with series varying from as low as £3.99 to up to £17.99.

Though Seesaw didn’t mention it in its release, we’ve also spotted content from other networks including recent series of Lost up for grabs. Seesaw says deals with Hollywood movie studios are also in the works.

With iTunes TV episodes going for £1.19 to keep we can’t help but think Seesaw’s rental only model is a little bit steep. Arqiva, the firm behind Seesaw, is also one of the partners in Project Canvas, the on demand TV standard that finally got approval yesterday.

Have you played with Seesaw? Let us know what you think and whether you’re tempted by its new rental plan.
