I would like to know if i can have the Samsung Galaxy S, just to review it for you of course :)

    • http://www.electricpig.co.uk Ben Sillis

Not the Wave? We’re looking into giving readers the chance to review new gadgets very soon so never say never :) We’ll also be bringing you plenty of photo and video, so you can see it from every angle alongside our full reviews.

  • nDray

Hi! I would like to know if the OS supports WPA2 Enterprise encrypted networks!
I’d also like to know if the contact list automatically uses pictures from facebook or gmail contacts for the contact photos, or if you have to set them one by one…

    • http://www.electricpig.co.uk Ben Sillis

That’s on bada I take it? Or do you mean on Android 2.1 on the Galaxy S?

      • nDray

I meant Bada, the Wave, sorry for not being clear!

        • http://www.electricpig.co.uk Ben Sillis

Hi nDray – unfortunately, we weren’t able to test this feature – in the confines of where we could use the Samsung Wave, there weren’t any WPA2 networks to connect to. We’ll endeavour to find out for you in our full review, coming soon.

  • Cynfelyn

How does this compare to the desire in UI terms. How does BADA compare with Sense UI?

  • James

I’m not interested in the wave, the Galaxy S looks far more interesting! About the Galaxy S the main things I would like to know are: Battery life and how is the screen outside in bright sunshine?

  • Nathan Smith

i know they are using android, but how does the UI compare to other android phones out of the box?

Like, comparing the Galaxy S’s default UI to Sense UI, where does it beat it, where does it lose?

    • http://www.electricpig.co.uk Ben Sillis

Sure thing Nathan! We’ll let you know if Samsung’s vanilla approach to Android 2.1 is better than Sense – and if it differs from the Google Nexus One at all.

    • Cynfelyn

Exactly the same question as me! Nice one :)

      • http://www.electricpig.co.uk Ben Sillis

Your wish is still my command!

  • Cynfelyn

I have just read something about a new Samsung Galaxy S Pro. It will be identical to the Galaxy S except it will have a slide out physical QWERTY. Do you know more on this?

    • http://www.electricpig.co.uk Ben Sillis

There are rumours one is coming (From several model numbers on the Bluetooth SIG group) but nothing official. We’ve not seen one though.

  • Mark

    Hi,
I am concerned with the battery life for both the wave and the galaxy s. That is the biggest determining factor for me!

    • http://www.electricpig.co.uk Ben Sillis

Absolutely – we’re going to find out if the new AMOLED screens are sensible power sippers.

  • Mack

I have the old school G1 on T-Mobile and finally grew impatient waiting for T-Mobile to announce their plans for the Galaxy S and it will work with HSPA+. I just put in my pre-order for the Sprint EVO 4G….

But I digress. Do you know if the Samsung Galaxy S will run on HSPA+?

    • http://www.electricpig.co.uk Ben Sillis

It won’t sadly Mack – HSDPA 7.2Mbps, HSUPA 5.76Mbps on UK 3G reception bands.

  • Victor

I’d like to know the battery life of Galaxy S; and its UI experience compared with Iphone: easy to use? intuitive? as responsive as Iphone?

    • http://www.electricpig.co.uk Ben Sillis

We’ll be testing the battery alright Victor, no worries! We’ll also bring back our impressions of the UI, and any differences to vanilla Android.

  • J-Zero

Galaxy S: build quality compared to HTC Desire? How good is camera (as there seems to be no flash)? Ease of inputting text? Any new re: future software upgrades anticipated? Will it be an IPhone 4G beater? Cheers.

    • http://www.electricpig.co.uk Ben Sillis

We’re looking to bring you sample shots, so thanks J-Zero, that’s on our list!

  • swehes

My question is that, does Samsung Galaxy S come with Yahoo, and if so, can I hide/remove and replace it with the google apps?

    • http://www.electricpig.co.uk Ben Sillis

We’ll have a look for you.

  • David

I’d like to know if its possible to turn off the touchwiz interface? And if it crashed while you guy were testing it? And does it work as smooth as the iphone? (all about the galaxy s)

  • Marc Obermann

Hi I’d like to know if on the Galaxy you can turn off the Touch Wiz Interface and go back to plain Android?

    • http://www.electricpig.co.uk Ben Sillis

@Marc and David: We’ll find out, and be sure to bring you our impressions of stability. too

  • Cynfelyn

When is this review going to be ready Ben? I am really looking forward to it!!. Could you email me on cynswim@hotmail.co.uk when the video is out please.
    Best regards Cyn ;)

    • http://www.electricpig.co.uk Ben Sillis

Hi Cynfelyn – I can’t put out individual alerts, but if you follow @Electricpig on Twitter and Facebook you’ll see when our previews go live, the instant they do.

  • steve

    HI!
Could you try out some higher end games to see performance?
    Thanking you kindly SIR !
    Regards!

  • Glenn

I read somewhere that on the Galaxy S the integrated search and calendar apps will be Yahoo! and not Google. Interested to know if the defaults can be switched from these Yahoo! services to Google.

  • Josh

    Really important question here:
On some HTC Sense phones, or other phones that run android with a layer of special customization (Such as Touchwiz), you are able to revert back to the stock android experience. Is it possible to do that on the Samsung Galaxy S?

    • http://www.electricpig.co.uk Ben Sillis

A popular question and an important one – thanks Josh!

  • Dan

As a first gen galaxy owner I’m interested in a couple things: The battery life (first galaxy does not last a day) and the headphone jack. The headphone jack on the first galaxy is recessed into the plastic body and doesn’t allow for high quality L-shaped rubber headphone jacks to properly connect, only slim straight ones as found on ipod earbuds fit. Could you try a couple pairs of headphones with it? Preferably a pair with a beefier connector?

I am also very interested in the above stated questions about switching the yahoo services to google, the brightness of the samoled screen in sunlight, and how the “smart life” ui compares to sense (which I love) and whether or not it can be easily turned off without losing features such as the swype keyboard which looks very neat.

    • http://www.electricpig.co.uk Ben Sillis

      You got it Dan.

  • Pete

I’d like to know how the browser performs over 3G networks – is it a good experience when browsing high content websites?

This is my main reason for wanting to upgrade from my now aging iPhone 3G but I’ve played with the browser on the HTC desire and found the navigation to be laggy and the browser was much slower to render pages than I had expected. I’m hoping the Galaxy S and with its beefed up GPU will do a better job.

    • http://www.electricpig.co.uk Ben Sillis

We’re interested to see how Samsung’s own 1GHz chip performs, so we’ll be sure to test this out and tell you, thanks Pete!

  • RAM/Rom

Hi, i want to know the RAM size of the samsung galaxy s. I heard from 256mb to 512mb. So would be great to know the acutal RAM size.
    Thanks!

    • http://www.electricpig.co.uk Ben Sillis

Samsung’s not made this public as far as I can see but we’ll try and find out for you, ta!

  • DrSilverworm

I’m interested in the video playback abilities. Is it possible to just put any old .avi or .mp4 I have on my harddrive onto this phone and have it play back flawlessly, or is a conversion necessary?

    • http://www.electricpig.co.uk Ben Sillis

We’re on the case – we’re throwing every video format we’ve got at it, and seeing what it’s capable of over DLNA.

  • Rfiles

how much ram does it have?

    • http://www.electricpig.co.uk Ben Sillis

We’ll try and find out for you, cheers!

  • Irko

Can you turn off tuchwiz and use android 2.1 vanila?

    • http://www.electricpig.co.uk Ben Sillis

We can see why so many people are asking for this – Samsung’s not exactly got a strong track record when it comes to its own software and skinning (though bada may change that – stay tuned). We’ll be sure to let you know.

  • Josh

Sorry for the double post, but could you compare it’s super amoled display to the likes of the Nexus One and HTC Desire?

    • http://www.electricpig.co.uk Ben Sillis

Yup, that’s on our list. Super AMOLED is supposed to correct AMOLED’s main flaw so far, outdoor visibility, so we’ll be sure to check that, as well as what it’s like indoors.

  • foosharp

Can you guys check out the speed (and ease) of a gps fix? I know it has been the most annoying thing about my omnia. Whenever I need to use it, I spend 10 minutes trying to configure the settings and playing with a portsplitter, and then when it starts receiving data, a fix take 5 minutes.

  • http://www.electricpig.co.uk James Holland

Hi guys! Our full Wave preview post is now live. Check it out, and shout up in the comments if there’s anything we haven’t covered off – we’ve used your questions as a guide, so if you had a query, it should be answered!

    Galaxy s questions

Hi, as well as the previous questions can you try to run as many heavy programs at the same time as possible(I know 6 is the max but pick the most processor/memory intensive) and see if it can handle them all. Does the phone get hot after intense usage? Can you do a comparison between it and the samsung wave and the htc desire?

I’d also like to know how good the maximum video quality is, at macro distances, infinity, if it has fixed focus video, how the sound quality and loudness is, if it can handle moving objects etc. If you could post some videos taken to demonstrate those to youtube or your site please in 720p and some example pictures as well.

Could you check the web browser, bundled software and ui compared to sense ui mainly the user experience overall as I have an htc desire and am deciding whether to get a handset to use as a camera/media player alongside my desire eg this, wave, nokia n8or just sell and then replace the desire with an all in one?

The software keyboard and swype if it comes with it. Also can you try out asphalt the intensive 3d version on it?

Lastly can you check with samsung if it’s getting froyo or gingerbread or just flash 10.1? Thanks

  • Josh

When is the review going to be up?

  • Josh

    2 questions from me
    1) can the phone be used as a mobile hotspot
    2) everyone wants to know, froyo for galaxy s?

  • Chris

So they’ve “confirmed” Froyo for some time after launch, according to the thing they did in Singapore today.

Can you check if it has the same banding issues as the Nexus One? http://www.displaymate.com/Nexus_One_ShootOut.htm#Figure1 – apparently it’s a problem with Eclair, so I’d be interested to see if Samsung have done anything about it for their release.

Also on the screen, can you check if it uses a standard RGB or the Nexus One RGBG subpixel layout?

I’m still probably going to buy the damn thing – haven’t been this excited about a phone since the N95 – but I’d like to know.

  • http://www.livebandforwedding.co.uk Mike

I saw a review of the galaxy s that mentioned, and had a screen shot of video editing on the phone (linear, but allowing transitions etc). This is awesomely advanced – if it is indeed the case…

Any ideas if it is actually true? Surprised not to see more about it if it is!

  • Josh

Come on, It’s been a full week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mcott1966
