Guitar Hero 6 will avoid the hoohah it faced over Kurt Cobain singing inappropriate ditties in Guitar Hero 5 by not featuring any famous musicians as playable characters. However, it’s not all bad news for fans of realistically rendered rockstars as Activision has still signed some up to make appearances. Read on for details of who’ll you’ll be rocking out with and more early info on Guitar Hero 6.
Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich and KISS frontman Gene Simmons are the first pair of rockers confirmed to make motion-capture enabled cameos in Guitar Hero 6. Simmons will act as narrator for a new Quest Mode in which you’ll recruit rock stars for your band and unlock sets of their songs.
The reference to song sets suggests that Guitar Hero 6 will feature batches of tracks from bands rather than just one of two songs. The artists confirmed so far are Queen, Black Sabbath and KISS.
As well as the Guitar Hero 6 tracks, you’ll be able to import DLC from previous Guitar Hero games. It’s not clear whether that will cost you as it did with Guitar Hero 5.
The early details claim that Activision is aiming for Guitar Hero 6 to return to a “back to basics approach” with a “bigger focus on rock’n’roll”. Good news for folk baffled by Band Hero.
There’s no details on pricing or a release date for Guitar Hero 6 yet but we expect Activision to unveil some more concrete information at E3 in June, just in time for the arrival of the rival Green Day: Rockband.
Let us know: are you up for another round of Guitar Hero or have you put down your plastic guitar for good?
